From Inspiration to Action
How a Year at a Glance View is the calendar you needed
After watching this video from Ali, the idea to have a year at a glance view started.
I actually started using his templates for about 3 year until I decided to create something
that follows same principles but with the use of linearity for a more clean view.
See Your Year Before It Happens
Most people don’t struggle with managing their time — they struggle with seeing it.
We plan our days and maybe our weeks, but rarely stop to look at the full picture. And that’s where things start to break. We overcommit, stack busy periods back-to-back, and end up reacting instead of intentionally designing our year.
One simple idea can fix this: a year-at-a-glance view.
The Shift That Changes Everything
Instead of focusing only on what’s next, zoom out.
A year-at-a-glance is exactly what it sounds like — a single view where you can see all 12 months at once. Vacations, projects, busy seasons, personal milestones… all visible in one place.
It sounds simple, but it changes how you make decisions.
Why This Actually Matters
When you can see your year, patterns become obvious.
You start noticing things like:
Too many commitments in the same period
No real downtime between intense phases
Important goals that never got a place in your calendar
And once you see it, you can fix it — before it turns into stress or burnout.
From Planning to Designing Your Life
A traditional calendar tells you what to do today.
A year-at-a-glance helps you ask a better question:
“Does my year actually reflect the life I want?”
That’s a different level of thinking.
It connects your long-term goals with your weekly plans and your daily actions. Instead of disconnected tasks, everything starts to align.
A Better Way to Use Your Time
This is the idea behind building a tool like Year-ly.
Not just another calendar — but a way to:
Visualize your entire year
Spot overload early
Make better decisions about your time
Because once you can clearly see your year, you can finally start designing it.
